Jun 09, 2009 2:55pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet, DLC, PlayStation Store, Shadow of the Colossus
Yesterday, LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule clued us into the Team ICO downloadable content for its physics-driven PlayStation 3 platformer, promising "costumes, stickers and sound effects" inspired by Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

Shadow of the Colawwwsus.
Following through on the Ico and Yorda costumes, the studio has now unveiled three Colossus costumes, featuring protagonist Wander plus foes Quadratus and Gaius. Quadratus even features a tiny (presumably static) rendition of Wander on his arm, who is no doubt looking to drive a blade into the beast's glowing weak point--how cute!

The whole of the Team ICO-LittleBigPlanet DLC arrives in the PlayStation Store on Thursday. Pricing details aren't yet available. Such content is traditionally sold in a bundle, with "premium" costumes usually sold individually at around $1.99 a pop.

As for the stickers and sound effects, you can get a feel for possibilities they'll provide level designers with via the short teaser that follows after the break... Read more

Ico-themed LittleBigPlanet DLC Teased

May 29, 2009 4:06pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet
An image apparently teasing Ico-themed LittleBigPlanet downloadable content has been released by LBP developer Media Molecule.

The developer later confirmed, via Twitter, that the image was produced internally, but refused to specify it it was in fact related to DLC.

Since the release of LittleBigPlanet last fall, Media Molecule has added a wealth of new content to the PlayStation 3 platformer, ranging from new costumes (including Metal Gear's Solid Snake and 2000AD's Judge Dredd) to ambitious themed levels.

LittleBigPlanet Getting Web-based Level Sharing

May 21, 2009 11:27am CST tags: LittleBigPlanet
Media Molecule's adorable physics-driven PlayStation 3 platformer LittleBigPlanet will soon allow users to share their custom levels through the web, 1UP reports.

"Rather than going on forums and saying, 'Please search for my level,' you can just say, 'Here's a link,'" studio co-founder Alex Evans explained. The link will allow users to queue up level downloads, to be triggered the next time they start the game.

That functionality is coming "as soon as possible," Evans said, noting that the level-sharing portal site will offer an API for custom web-based LittleBigPlanet applications alongside online leaderboards and photo distribution.

Evans further revealed that the studio will begin testing upcoming game features through a limited public beta, saying "it's less about testing the online and more about giving the vocal minority a chance to see what's coming and to give us their feedback."

Feb 27, 2009 6:45pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet
Seven dedicated souls over on the NeoGAF forums worked together to complete this full remake of Contra in LittleBigPlanet.

Each of the eight stages from Konami's game were painstakingly recreated in cute, LBP style. After a lengthy development process, the levels have been released into the LittleBigPlanet wild, where they will hopefully not be struck down immediately for copyright infringement.

Check out a trailer for the impressive stages below.

Sony: LittleBigPlanet PSP to Feature Creation, Sharing

Feb 26, 2009 7:58pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet
Developer Media Molecule plans to keep LittleBigPlanet's concept of fostering user-created content as a central feature in the upcoming PSP version, according to comments made by Sony to Kotaku.

"There is a whole play, create, share component to the game, just like the PS3," said Sony director of hardware marketing John Koller. "They are still working on that, so there's not a whole lot to talk about yet."

Koller also mentioned that Media Molecule is looking to implement some type of PlayStation 3/PSP connection functionality, but that nothing is set in stone as of yet.

PSP Getting Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm

Sony's annual Destination PlayStation conference is underway, with confirmation that Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, LittleBigPlanet and MotorStorm are all PSP-bound.

Little is known regarding each game. Joystiq reports that Rock Band Unplugged will sport an in-game music store through the system's wireless capabilities, and adds that LittleBigPlanet PSP is being made "in conjunction" with creator Media Molecule.

Rock Band Unplugged will be "launching exclusively on PSP," according to Sony PR. Assassin's Creed will be "an exclusive installment," and LittleBigPlanet will pack new levels and areas "specifically created for the platform."

As for MotorStorm, the portable rendition of Evolution's racing series is said to feature the "breathtaking yet lethal and unpredictable setting of Alaska." It's dubbed MotorStorm Arctic Edge, developed by Pursuit Force veterans Bigbig, and will also hit PlayStation 2.

LittleBigPlanet, Rock Band Unplugged, MotorStorm and Assassin's Creed PSP are due out later this year. Expect more details once the non-Sony games, Rock Band and Assassin's Creed, are officially announced by their respective publishers.

LittleBigPlanet, MGS4 Lifetime Sales Data Unearthed

Jan 21, 2009 6:50pm CST tags: Software Sales, NPD, LittleBigPlanet
Sales data pertaining to some of last year's more ambitious titles has been revealed by the NPD Group, including the launch-to-date sales of PlayStation 3 exclusives Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet.

Media Molecule's unique platformer LittleBigPlanet (PS3) managed to sell 611,000 copies in the US following its launch in October, according to data obtained by Gamasutra. Coming in just under that figure was Insomniac's shooter Resistance 2 (PS3), which has sold 598,000 copies since its November launch.

Kojima Productions' Metal Gear sequel (PS3) sold just over 1 million copies in the US last year. The title moved 775,000 units during its launch month of June, with 301,000 sales accumulated in the second half of the year.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft's Prince of Persia (X360, PS3, PC) shifted 483,000 units over the holidays, while Eidos' Tomb Raider: Underworld (X360, PS3, Wii, PC) managed only 246,000 sales in the US [This data does not include PC sales.] Eidos recently claimed that Underworld has sold over 1.5 million units worldwide, implying that the majority of its sales were seen outside of the US.

LittleBigPlanet Somehow Getting Wipeout Costumes

Jan 21, 2009 4:35pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet, Screenshots, DLC, PlayStation Store
I had no problem accepting the Metal Gear Solid Sackboys, or the Street Fighter costumes. I was cool with head turkey and Santa threads.

But letting Sackboy dress like one of Wipeout's inanimate hovercrafts? That just seems odd, even if LittleBigPlanet does have racing stages.

But, regardless of my personal opinion, it's happening. According to Sony Europe community team leader MusterBuster, the Wipeout costume set will also add some new stickers when it the hits February 19. No price point was specified.

Along with word of the Wipeout costumes, MusterBuster laid out a tentative schedule for the DLC that should hit the Media Molecule-developed PS3 platformer in the next month, though he did not note what will be free and what will cost actual money.

LittleBigPlanet Bug Creating Big Problems for Users

Dec 30, 2008 6:02pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet
PS3fanboy is reporting that a bug affecting many users of LittleBigPlanet can lead to the deletion of the game's save data.
The glitch appears to be related to a user's profile data. Players are reporting that accumulating too many community objects can cause the game to delete anything from level progress and saved costumes, to both user-created and official levels.

In any case, LBP users note that the only current solution to the problem is the manual deletion of community content. Developer Media Molecule has yet to issue a comment on the matter.

Dec 19, 2008 3:54pm CST tags: LittleBigPlanet
A double shot of updates for LittleBigPlanet (PS3) have arrived across the past day, making the game's moderation policies more clear and adding an in-game store.

Following through on developer Media Molecule's vow to improve the moderation of user-created levels, creators can now learn why their level was removed, providing them with the opportunity to resolve the issue and republish the level.

The unexplained removal of user-made LittleBigPlanet levels had led to outcry from players and creators alike. In response, Sony offered a series of suggested guidelines while Media Molecule readied the improved feedback system.

In addition, the updates also brought an in-game store for downloadable content, and more search options for the wealth of user-created levels, as first reported by Kotaku.
