Kane & Lynch Sales Top One Million

Jan 11, 2008 5:05pm CST tags: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men

It's been a difficult year for Eidos parent company SCi, but it appears as though the company finally has something to celebrate: IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PC, PS3, X360) has sold over a million copies since its launch in mid-November, according to Next Gen.

Though rooted in a great deal of controversy, Kane & Lynch's commercial success is clearly the result of the hearty endorsement of the game in a Shackblog editorial by Steve Gaynor. As professional movers and shakers of the gaming industry, Shacknews is no stranger to shifting the commercial fate of even the most dismally rated games.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men Review

Io Interactive's heist-themed squad shooter Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PC, PS3, X360) has arrived. I played through the Xbox 360 version of the game and came out clean with all the details. Is it worth your time? Read on to find out.
The game's chapters are broken up into scenes like a movie, with each segment labeled after choice tidbits of talk between the two. With titles like "Stealing your own shit" and "The old fucker took it," you can imagine what the fuck-filled dialogue is like...

Kane & Lynch Now Gold, Retailing One Week Early

Oct 31, 2007 2:59pm CST tags: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Io Interactive's heist squad shooter Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PC, PS3, X360) has gone gold, and publisher Eidos has announced the title will ship to stores one week early, available for purchase on November 14.

The duo-centric shooter curiously lacks an online cooperative mode for the campaign, but features an online quasi-cooperative mode in the form of the Fragile Alliance multiplayer game type. The eight-player matches of Fragile Alliance will pit all eight human opponents against AI-controlled cops in a heist, but players will need to betray their auspicious allies to make away with the cash.

Before Kane & Lynch, Danish developer Io Interactive created the Hitman series as well as squad shooter Freedom Fighters (PC, PS2, GCN, Xbox). For more information, check out the Shack's preview of the game.

Kane & Lynch Retailing November 20

Sep 26, 2007 2:11pm CST tags: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
Hitting store shelves just in time to take advantage of the traditional American post-Thanksgiving shopping splurge, Io Interactive's squad-based heist shooter Kane & Lynch: Dead Men will retail November 20. Publisher Eidos announced the release date today for the psycho-duo shooter, coming to PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

Oddly, the developers have yet to reveal the specifics on the game's multiplayer component. The developers said previously that the two player co-op will be limited to splitscreen offline play, but the only details given in the announcement concerning the ambiguous eight-player online multiplayer is that it "will shake up the online gameplay experience." It's squad-based, so four-on-four team battles seem likely.

Known for both the underappreciated squad shooter Freedom Fighters and the Hitman franchise, Io Interactive has a chance to cross into the mainstream gaming world with Kane & Lynch. Read the Shack's previous coverage to learn more about the developer's first game exclusive to PC and current-gen hardware.

New Kane & Lynch Trailer, Film Moving Forward

Aug 31, 2007 10:21am CST tags: Trailer, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men
After a period of silence regarding Lionsgate's film adaptation of IO Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men (PC, PS3, X360), IGN is reporting that the studio has selected a script and hopes to begin shooting it this fall.

Of the two scripts that were commissioned earlier this year--one by Kyle Ward, the other from The Air I Breathe director Jieho Lee and co-writer Bob DeRosa--Lionsgate has apparently chosen to progress with Ward's interpretation of the events depicted in the video game. Whether or not this will affect the Lee's rumored role as the film's director remains to be seen.

As for casting of mercenary Kane, self-medicated psychopath Lynch and their foes, IGN claims that "several big-name actors...including one A-lister" are being discussed. To learn more about the co-op-centered game and its violent tendencies, scope out the new trailer below and Shack editor Carlos Bergfeld's recent impressions and interview.

PAX 07: Kane & Lynch Impressions and Interview

Aug 29, 2007 12:22pm CST tags: Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Interview
Io Interactive's Kane & Lynch: Dead Men had a large presence at PAX this year, showing off what seems to be a game displaying most of the studio's previously established strengths. To see if a fighting alongside a psycho who wants to kill you is better than hanging with your best bud, read on.
The realistic crowd AI works well in Kane & Lynch, with hysterical pedestrians swarming to safe locations in the city like packs of roaches. And enemy AI seemed fairly proficient at finding better vantage points to shoot from--it was hard to stay even partially in the open without being pelted by projectiles.
