THQ Revamps Logo, Itagaki at Relic Sharing Technology and THQ Snags More Ex-Ubisoft Talent

13
During his intro presentation at an ongoing media event in New York, THQ's VP of Core Games, Danny Bilson, revealed a handful of tidbits revolving around his current employer. The most unexpected announcement was the company's decision to swap its current logo for something that THQ President and CEO Brian Farrell feels, "epitomizes the change, innovation and creative growth that are the cornerstones of the new THQ."

Bilson also revealed that Valhalla Game Studio boss, Tomonobu Itagaki, is currently visiting THQ's Relic studio in Vancouver. The purpose of his visit it for the two teams to work closely and share technology, Bilson notes that although Valhalla Studios is an external team developing Devil's Third under the THQ banner, the publisher treats all "external teams as internal teams." Bilson later clarified in an interview with Joystiq that the "technology sharing" will see Relic contributing in some way to the development of Itagaki's first, post-Team Ninja title.

The speech also included mention of THQ's latest "big name" hire, former Assassin's Creed lead Patrice Désilets. According to Bilson, Désilets requested the hiring of three specific people within the Montreal development community for his team, and THQ fulfilled that request. While Bilson would not name the three people, he later confirmed in an interview that all are former Ubisoft employees. During the interview, Bilson makes it clear that THQ will populate its upcoming studio with people from around the world and is not purposefully poaching talent from Ubisoft. "I just know Patrice said, 'I need these three guys.' And I said 'Okay! Whatever you need!'," Bilson said.

It will still be some time before we see Désilets and his team develop a game for THQ, as all former Ubisoft employees must first wait for their non-compete clauses to expire before working at a new studio. Désilets is set to join THQ as the lead in Montreal on May 29.

Wasn't their response at E3 or something like "Seriously, don't ask about it. We're tired of answering. Just let it go" or something?
