This new trailer for Trion Worlds' upcoming "complete" MMORPG Rift, which the developers promise will be "polished at launch" and "advance the genre the day it ships," is full of bold claims.

The trailer opens with some testimonials from members various guilds that have been playing the game talking about how awesome it is, which is followed up by some voiceover detailing what you can expect from Rift.

Time will tell if the game will be a hit, but it looks like it has a good foundation. If you're more curious, you can read my preview from when I saw a build back in October.

Wow someone finally gets it! I wonder if it took a full room of "experts" and "analysts" to figure it out. Failure @ launch= downhill

I eagerly await the first day server crashes and everyone just being shocked, SHOCKED that this would happen on a first day MMORPG launch.

What's better, making really bold claims and hoping they work out, or keeping your mouth shut, launching a good product, and letting word of mouth help out?

There's a real big difference between hyping your product and claiming that it's the best thing since sliced bread. I would think that MMO players in general are tired of empty promises that every developer makes, considering that this has been standard practice for awhile now. But even if the game turns out to be good at launch, if it's not great then they kicked themselves in the butt.

Just marketing 101. You'd expect the company to claim their making the best game ever. Why else make the game if it wasn't???
