Morning Discussion

With Super Mario Bros. 25 years old today, Halo: Reach out tomorrow and the Tokyo Game Show beginning later this week, we might be in a few slow news days as video games peek out from behind their curtains at the gunfighters lining up in the street.

I'll probably pick up Reach to see what all the fuss is about. As a PC gamer, the Halo franchise has completely passed me by. I'm curious to see what I make of Reach, having none of the fondness that untold millions of gamers feel for the franchise. Then, no matter what I think of the game, I'll say that I found it unremarkable and tiresome and I disliked the story and maybe it'd be better if I could use a keyboard and mouse but I'd much rather be playing Deus Ex or reading a book.

Mario swore and champed down on his cigarillo, tipping his Stetson to block the sun from his eyes. His right hand twitched at his hip, hovering above the holstered Fire Flower power-up. It's the sort of scene that would be perfectly at home on a t-shirt worn by some dreadful person who'd say "You, get it, yeah? It's like Mario from the video games but as a cowboy, yeah? And he's cussin' like Al Swearengen from Deadwood off the telly, right? And that, 's the flower like in the game? Yeah great, I know."
