MS: GTA 4 Xbox 360 Outsold PlayStation 3 in UK; Gamers Play Over 31 Million Hours of 360 Edition

Perhaps responding to Sony's claim that the PlayStation 3 has surpassed Xbox 360 in Europe, Microsoft today announced that the Xbox 360 edition of Rockstar North's Grand Theft Auto IV outsold the PlayStation 3 version in the UK by 20%.

Of the game's $500 million worldwide launch, sales-tracking firm ELSPA/Chart-Track reported that 514,000 units of the Xbox 360 iteration and 413,000 PlayStation 3 copies were sold in the UK across its first week at retailers.

Microsoft claimed that UK sales of Xbox 360 hardware jumped 125% following the game's release. The company stated that, across the past week, gamers have spent more than 31 million hours playing Grand Theft Auto IV on Xbox 360, with over 9.7 million of those hours spend playing the game online.

These numbers are very interesting since they show a clear picture of the current state of the console war.

GTA4 is the first major cross-platform release. It will be used by publishers to see if one console can win and take the lead for this generation.

From the numbers I have seen so far, it looks like the 360 will lead but will never gain the numbers that the PS2 had over the Xbox1.

Wow, you must not of ever taken a high level stats course.

You can't say since GTA4 sold more on 360, the 360 is winning the console war.
There are tons of other things that could be considered:
Maybe the general population with a PS3 don't like GTA4 games
Maybe since the 360 is less than the ps3, if people had neither console and wanted to buy the game they went out and bought the 360 instead of the ps3...which really doesn't mean the 360 is better, just cheaper...(so i guess its how you define win)
PS3 owners maybe have better things to do?

Honestly I have a 360 and not a ps3 but i don't think you should make bold claims that definitely can't be the result of this sort of "study"
I Personally don't think a publisher will use the numbers to choose which console to make their game for, that wouldn't be logical as making it for both....would generally increase your profits...or maybe their game is more suited for PS3 owners.
