TimeSplitters 4 Officially in the Works

Though its name has been vaguely tossed around occasionally in recent months, TimeSplitters 4 has now been definitely confirmed by series developer Free Radical Studios on the company's official website.

The series' exaggerated aesthetic and pop culture-infused sense of humor appears to have made it to the fourth installment intact, despite the studio's more serious bent on its upcoming Haze (PS3, PC, X360?)--the animated Flash video introducing the game parodies Halo 3's marketing ("The greatest first person shooter of all time back for another chapter; fight to the finish," it declares), and the site's main page features a Gears of War-like monkey icon. "A big halo to all our fans!" reads the front page blurb.

No real details on the game have yet been revealed beyond a general description on an official game minisite: "It's funny, it's frantic and it'll do things you've never seen before! No, not naked girls, even better than that! We can't tell you the details yet, the monkeys have a loaded banana pressed against our skull, but this game will take the first person shooter to gaming nirvana."

Free Radical also noted that it is currently hiring artists and programmers for TimeSplitters 4.

No target platforms were listed for TimeSplitters 4, although the game was mentioned in the August issue of the Official UK PlayStation Magazine as a PlayStation 3 title; it is likely that the game is in development at least for Xbox 360 as well, as the series has been multiplatform since its second installment.
