May 5 is upon us, which depending on individual preferences might conjure thoughts of Mexican military victory, half-priced margaritas, something-or-other about Star Wars, or perhaps all of the above. Putting aside these notions, today is also Friday, which means it's time to relax by the hearth, gaze into the fire, and reflect upon all of this week's top stories from the fine folk over at Modojo.

Gamer Fashion and New 2DS XL Details

One of the coolest stories to land this week was the announcement of the winners of Uniqlo's Nintendo t-shirt design contest. Loads of contestants submitted their ideas in hopes of making their mark on gamer fashion as well as walking away with the $10,000 prize. Alas, the top spot could only go to one person, and Japanese Nintendo fan Takashi Kawazoe's solid retro-Mario t-shirt design landed him the cash prize in addition to a Nintendo Switch signed by Shigeru Miyamoto.

Fans are still abuzz with anticipation for the New Nintendo 2DS XL, the likes of which the company surprise announced just last week. While initial details were slim, interested buyers now know all of the crucial details, including the New 2DS XL's features, release date, price, and the various titles available at launch for the system.

With that said, some players still don't quite understand where the New 2DS XL fits into the 3DS brand. No one said that making sense of the New Nintendo 2DS XL would be easy; fortunately, a little exploration into the subject reveals a bottom line that just about anyone could wrap their head around.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Fire Emblem Guides

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a hot topic since its release last Friday. Players have been happily jumping into the Switch's immediately-iconic racing title, and through all of the valiant victories and upsetting losses, many players have been left wondering which Mario Kart 8 Deluxe characters and karts are best. Good news: Modojo is always here to help.

The Fire Emblem series has also been enjoying its time in the limelight: Fire Emblem Heroes recently acquired Ike, the fan-favorite hero players might remember from Path of Radiance as well as Radiant Dawn, so we put together a guide on Ike's summoning, weapons, and skills. Additionally, Nintendo dropped all the must-have details for the Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia Season Pass, the likes of which we have lovingly passed on to readers.

Lastly, we'd be remiss if we didn't throw a shoutout to Steve Tyminski, the popular and seasoned contributor to both Modojo and Gamerhub. Steve's been playing TumbleSeed, the new roguelike title from Greg "aeiowu" Wohlwend. Not to give away any spoilers, but he seemed to really enjoy the title. Check out Steve's TumbleSeed Review over on Gamerhub.

That's it for us this week. All you Pokemon hunters stay safe this weekend, and we'll see you all soon over at Modojo.
