Nintendo and ESL are giving away an NX as a prize for winning a Splatoon tournament

We still don't know what an NX is.

Nintendo and eSports group ESL are partnering to hold Go4Splatoon, an eSports tournament centered on Nintendo's 2015 third-person shooter/painter. The grand prize is a Nintendo NX console—and we still don't know what, exactly, the NX is (via GameSpot).

"Go4Splatoon Europe is a weekly 4on4 cup series with a monthly final at the end of each month," per the tourney's website. "Go4Splatoon Europe will feature Splatoon prizes every month, with the winning team of each weekly Go4Splatoon tournament taking home Splatoon Merchandise."

Each week, top teams earn ranking points that advance them to better seeds. Champions will be crowned each month over the next six months. Those champions will face off in the grand final next year, and every member of the winning team will receive a Nintendo NX console.

All we know about the Nintendo NX is that it's scheduled to launch globally in March 2017. A schedule for Go4Splatoon Europe isn't even available yet, so not having a clear picture of the grand prize seems appropriate.

As far what the NX might be, a console/handheld hybrid that runs on cartridges and uses detachable controllers is looking more and more likely based on unconfirmed reports from sources who claim to be close to Nintendo's production lines.
