Super Mario 64 DS, a port of the N64 classic and a launch game for Nintendo Dual Screen handheld, will hop, skip, and jump its way to Wii U's Virtual Console on August 25 (via Polygon).

If you played Super Mario 64 but skipped the DS port, the portable version introduced a few twists. Mario enters Peach's castle alongside Wario and Luigi, and all three promptly go missing. You control Yoshi and set off in search of your plumber pals. After finding them, you can switch between characters by entering certain doors.

Swapping characters grants you special abilities. Luigi can jump higher, Wario is stronger, Mario jumps the farthest, and Yoshi eats enemies and turns them into eggs, which you can fire as projectiles.

Super Mario 64 DS contains 150 stars, 30 more than the N64 version.
