Blizzard teases new Overwatch character (maybe), and discusses upcoming changes

A progress counter on a certain website indicates that a reveal could be coming as soon as Friday.

Following yesterday's post on Battle.net, fans have found more evidence that Sombra will be making its way to Overwatch soon—or at least, they believe they've found evidence.

A bunch of Overwatch fans congregated in a Reddit post to dissect clues. One of those was a website with text written in Spanish as well as a transmission counter that ticked from 2 to 3 percent over 20 minutes. A Twitter user did the math and deduced that the percentage will reach 100 on Friday, speculating that its conclusion may coincide with Sombra's grand unveiling.

Another clue, yesterday's Battle.net post, appeared to be hacked. The screen flash, text appeared, and Reaper blinked in and out several times. The post has since been removed.

The third and final clue amounted to speculation that today's Public Test Realm patch might contain a new character. In reality, the update concentrates on changes to Hanzo, Soldier 76, and quick melees.

Overwatch principal designer Geoff Goodman wrote a Battle.net post of his own breaking down some of the changes. Speaking to Hanzo, he said that "The goal of these changes is to allow Hanzo players to feel like they have more control over their shots, and skilled Hanzo players can be much more consistent. While this is certainly true now, it might be a bit too easy to land very powerful shots with the combination of his new projectile speed and his old projectile size. So we've lowered his projectile size by 33 percent in the update that just went out."

As for quick melees, Blizzard wants to make sure players use them in specific ways. "The general philosophy here is that quick melee shouldn't interrupt abilities and vice versa. There are a few exceptions to this rule. Quick movement abilities such as Tracer's Blink, Pharah's Jet Boost, or Winston's Leap can work while quick melee is firing, so it isn't canceled in those cases. Ultimate abilities should now all cancel quick melee, since they are more rare special abilities that should have a higher priority."

Head over to the Overwatch PTR servers on PC to put the patch through its paces, and stay tunes for more clues-that-might-not-be-clues as we build toward Sombra's reveal. Maybe. Nobody knows, honestly.
