While details are still forthcoming, developers from KingsIsle Entertainment posted word on Twitter that the studio has been hit with layoffs.

"Well the place I worked at, KingsIsle, just exploded with mass layoffs," tweeted one developer (per a developing report published by Gamasutra). "So right now I'm out of a job. Hope I can get something close by."

Another developer corroborated the story. "KingsIsle had massive layoffs today," he tweeted, describing being called into the office to receive the bad news.

KingsIsle Entertainment hit a growth spurt followed by a stunt. Founded in 2005, the studio has offices in Austin and Dallas, Texas. Its most popular game, Wizard101, was a card-based MMO aimed at teens released across multiple territories between 2008 and 2015. At its peak, Wizard101 hosted over 14 million players.

More recently, KingsIsle released Pirate101, an online game set in the same fantasy realm as Wizard101.

The studio's most well-known creative force is Tom Hall, co-founder of id Software and co-creator of Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, and Doom. After leaving id, Hall went on to design fan-favorite RPG Anachronox.
