Nintendo has announced Splatoon will be receiving a “massive” update that will introduce a boatload of new content to the game, which includes two new matchmaking modes, new weapon types, gear, and a level cap increase.

The two new game modes being introduced in Splatoon’s upcoming update are Squad Battle and Private Battle. Squad Battle allows players to invite their friends to fight together in Ranked Battle matches and will always fight alongside their friends while fighting other squads at random. The second, Private Battle, has players taking part in private, customizable matches. The mode allows two to eight friends to fight together in the map of their choice, as well as select which game mode and weapons will be available.

In addition to the new game modes, two new weapon types will be available to players: the bucket-like Slosher weapons and gatling-style Splatling. That’s not all as over 40 pieces of gear will be made available across various in-game shops and players will be able to reach level 50 and rank S and S+ in both Regular Battle and Ranked Battle modes.

Nintendo has been doing a great job at supplying regular updates to Splatoon, which is made even better by making these updates free to download.

This update will be made available starting on August 5 for free for all Splatoon players.
