Fable Legends will be free-to-play on PC and Xbox

Lionhead Studios will be adventuring to the land of free-to-play for the first time when Fable Legends is released.

Lionhead Studios’ upcoming multiplayer-focused title, Fable Legends, will be completely free-to-play on both PC and Xbox.

The confirmation of Fable Legends going free-to-play comes from Lionhead Studios themselves, which says the game will feature a story’s worth of quests available at launch, with additional content expected to be released episodically every few months.

The game won’t include some of the previous free-to-play models we’ve seen of late, such as limit to game time or resources that need to recharge over time. Instead, Fable Legends will have four heroes available to play, which will rotate every two weeks. If you feel strongly towards one character that has been rotated out, you can either wait for them to come back into rotation with all of your experience points and equipment intact, or you can pay to unlock them permanently.

Fable Legends includes two payment methods: in-game money that’s earned or real-world money. The game won’t require players to pay for any gameplay-related content and there will be an option for cosmetic items.

I'm curious to see just how well going free-to-play goes for Fable Legends as we probably learned with the launch of Evolve, there are some people who aren't completely comfortable paying a full retail price for a multiplayer-only game. I'd also like to see how many of us will actually purchase something in the game once it's released.

Interesting experiment. I think if the game is SOLID and the its fair as he stated and FUN of course. Folks will buy some decently priced DLC. Not the bullshit pricing they have going to Evolve. LOL!
And free is free, so the initial cost is nada AND all the content will be open to the payers?! That's a win/win
They should send royalty checks to Evolve dev team for showing them what NOT to do.
