Destiny gets humorous fragrance-themed ad from Microsoft

If it existed, you'd bet that we would smell Legend-ary.

With Destiny just four days away from release, Activision is going all out with a marketing blitz for the game, including a savvy new live-action trailer from the director of Tron Legacy. Microsoft's Europe division, meanwhile, has a different approach. With fragrance.

The publisher has launched a new Destiny Fragrance page that, at first, advertises an actual Destiny cologne that players can apparently spray on themselves to smell…Legend-ary. However, the truth is, it doesn't exist. It's just a coy tie-in for the forthcoming game.

Says the site, "OK, so here's the lowdown. Destiny is actually an epic new first-person shooter, available on Xbox. This is, we didn't have permission to run adverts for the game. So we didn't. Thanks for smelling that something was up."

Damn. And here we were looking forward to smelling like galactic victory.

Destiny arrives on September 9th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.
