How Assassin's Creed Rogue switches up the AC formula

While Xbox One and PlayStation 4 get to venture off into the French Revolution for a whole new Assassin's Creed tale, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 owners will get to continue the Kenway saga with Assassin's Creed: Rogue. Shacknews recently had a chance to talk to Ubisoft's Karl Luhe about this latest side-story in the AC series, while also getting an opportunity to see some more gameplay.

"Assassin's Creed Rogue fits between Assassin's Creed 4 and Assassin's Creed 3," Luhe explained to Shacknews. "It's the cornerstone of the Kenway saga, the story of Assassins versus Templars in the mid-18th century in North America."

Given its timeline and its theme of playing an Assassin-turned-Templar, expect to see some returning characters like Haytham Kenway. Other familiar faces are being kept tightly under wraps at this time.

Luhe adds that becoming a Templar will change up the AC formula quite a bit, adding never-before-used weaponry and resources that the Assassin side simply doesn't have. Examples include an air rifle with a grenade launcher attachment on the ground, while ships are equipped with heavier firepower. On that note, expect the opposition to utilize the usual Assassin repertoire, meaning they can be lying in wait for you inside haystacks and the like.
