Bohemia Interactive has taken the next step to ensure that Arma 2 survives the Gamespy shutdown. A new 1.63 update for Operation Arrowhead will ensure that online matchmaking survives by formally transitioning from Gamespy to Steam.

"As you may have heard, GameSpy is discontinuing its services and it was therefore of paramount importance to offer an alternative for the passionate Operation Arrowhead players who have supported our game and our company for so many years," reads the Arma 2 blog post.

The update is available through Steam. Those that own retail copies of Arma 2 can make the transition to Steam by following Bohemia Interactive's provided walkthrough.

The studio is also lending assistance to owners of previous Arma games that wish to see their online multiplayer games survive. A full list of active servers can be found here.
