Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection shuts down for Wii and DS

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, the online functionality on Nintendo Wii and DS, has been discontinued today. That will mean online modes, matchmaking, and leaderboards for several of those games are no longer accessible, though Nintendo notes that Wii U and 3Ds games have been unaffected.

Super Smash Bros invitational tournament detailed

Super Smash Bros appears to be Nintendo's headliner at this year's E3, which makes sense given that the 3DS version is due this summer. Its promotional efforts will include demo stations at Best Buy stores, and a Wii U invitational tournament running alongside the expo. Nintendo has now shared details on how fans can get in to watch the tourney.

Child of Light coming to Vita in July

The beautiful watercolor-styled RPG Child of Light is coming to Vita, Ubisoft announced today. It will hit digitally on July 1 for $14.99, alongside a retail edition with extra content.

The Civilization series moves into the future with this goal in mind in the upcoming Civilization: Beyond Earth. Shacknews recently had the opportunity to go where no man had gone before and attempt to make a thriving civilization in parts unknown.

Just as in previous Civilization 5, Beyond Earth sticks close employs turn-based strategy and has players attempt to build along a field of hexagons. The object is to build a prosperous land that allows the human race to thrive by investing in futuristic sci-fi technology and engaging in relations (whether friendly or hostile) with the planet's aliens and fellow human colonies.
