Heroes of the Storm set to begin 'Technical Alpha'

Heroes of the Storm is about to undergo a "Technical Alpha," giving a select few players an opportunity to go hands-on with Blizzard's MOBA for the first time.

While Blizzard has already begun taking beta sign-ups for the upcoming MOBA, Heroes of the Storm, the publisher acknowledges that the large-scale crossover of the company's many franchises still needs a lot of work. To that end, Blizzard has announced that the game would be going through a Technical Alpha period, with a small number of players being invited to help out with this "very early" testing stage.

"This initial testing phase is intended to help us better examine how our infrastructure and tech will function across a much broader spectrum of machines and connection types," states the announcement. "What's more, inviting external Alpha testers will allow us to take a closer look at our hardware needs so that we can be absolutely sure we're able to support the entire Heroes population as the community grows."

Blizzard will begin sending out invitation emails soon, giving players their first opportunity at a playable Heroes of the Storm build since BlizzCon. It should be noted that there is no NDA attached to the Tech Alpha, meaning players can freely post about anything they see or even live stream sessions without consequence.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
