Dr. Luigi starts practicing December 31

Nintendo announced Dr. Luigi today, a spin-off of Dr. Mario with modes from past games and a new "Operation L" mode with combination pills. It's coming December 31.

Mario has been practicing medicine without a license for years, and his brother Luigi has apparently decided he wants to get in on it as well. Nintendo announced Dr. Luigi today, a Wii U downloadable game set to come out on December 31 for $14.99.

Like Dr. Mario, you'll be dropping pills on viruses to bust them. Unlike Mario, Luigi has access to L-shaped combination pills in "Operation L" mode. The traditional Dr. Mario-like mode is available too, with online play. A versus mode lets you attack opponents by changing their pills at the last moment. It also includes the "Virus Buster" game from the Brain Age series, which can be played on the GamePad held vertically. You can see it in action at 24:30 in the video below.
