Weekend Confirmed 175 - Saints Row: The Third, Disney Infinity

By Ozzie Mejia, Jul 26, 2013 11:00am PDT

Jeff Cannata is still in the outback, learning to play the didgeridoo. That leaves host Garnett Lee back at the homestead with The Escapist's Andrea Rene and Shacknews' Andrew Yoon and Ozzie Mejia to continue bringing you the best in games. This week, Garnett discovers Saints Row: The Third for the first time and he tells you why he's not completely enthused by it. Talk shifts to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. and Nintendo's bizarre aversion to YouTube, before Andrea talks about some of the big games on-hand at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The show ends with a big discussion about the Xbox One's recent policy announcements before sending you into the weekend with a new round of Finishing Moves.

  • Loved the show. Probably the only show I listen to regularly (and I used to listen to a lot of them). Listen people, It's Garnett's GOTDAMNED SHOW! Let him be himself! If you haven't been listening from the 1UP days, he's change a mega-ton so no need to whine and complain. He can manage his own reins. This whole discussion of Garnett being unfair or rude to Andrea is ridiculous. My feeling of Andrea aside (not fond), I think she handled herself well as always. She's bold and acts like ONE OF THE GUYS! What's the problem!? The Blossom thing was an inside joke that spilled out. Totally fine for Garnett and the crew but certainly not us to ever bring up in her presence . We don't have that type of rapport with her so I would never bring it up in person.

Anyways... Andrew, your view on cosplay is perplexing. Cosplay or not, these days people will take a photo of you permission or no permission. We live in an Instagram Tumblr life. embrace it or start carrying around EMP emitting devices.

Indie Devs... I think Indies are the much needed "Le Trou Normand" form the Skyrims and Maddens of the industry. Devs like Thatgamecompany provide the much needed palate cleansing when everyone is trying to do the "Same old thing". Andrea, now that you have Steam installed, play "Don't Starve", "Dust: An Elysian Tail", "Monaco: What's Yours Is Mine", etc. They may not be system sellers but "Fez", "Minecraft", "Jorney" and the like are weights (how ever small in comparison) that "tip the scales" in a platform holders favor and at this point the PS4 is tipping the scales in it's favor.

Gender inequality (in the gaming industry)... Unfortunately it's a male dominated genre and market at it's core (at least on the user/gamer end). In some ways female gamers get ogled and school boy snickered at but at the same time some female gamers use their femininity to bring awareness and attract other women to the market. As I pointed out in another thread, "Mass Effect is set in the far distant future where hopefully humans have evolved rather than be mired by gender bias. Cinema homework for the community...." G.I. Jane" and "Courage Under Fire".

Saint's Row the Third.... OMG the moments I had in co-op with that game. I bought it on PC (ALWAYS the BEST experience IMHO) for myself and gifted a friend a copy during a Steam sale (Just as I did or normally do with games on the cheap. Gifted Retro City Rampage to my buddy. *Glaring at Andrea*) and ..... Wow. The conversations, the laughter, the mayhem and the screenshots .... ohhh... the screenshots. Just as I mentioned in Twitter Garnett, SR3 is like the "Hangover" of sandbox games. When you get your boys together to look at the photos one last time.... damn... the stuff yo do in that game. Side note. The Car customization lets you really sit long and hard about how you want your ride to look.
