Weekend Confirmed 175 - Saints Row: The Third, Disney Infinity

By Ozzie Mejia, Jul 26, 2013 11:00am PDT

Jeff Cannata is still in the outback, learning to play the didgeridoo. That leaves host Garnett Lee back at the homestead with The Escapist's Andrea Rene and Shacknews' Andrew Yoon and Ozzie Mejia to continue bringing you the best in games. This week, Garnett discovers Saints Row: The Third for the first time and he tells you why he's not completely enthused by it. Talk shifts to the upcoming Super Smash Bros. and Nintendo's bizarre aversion to YouTube, before Andrea talks about some of the big games on-hand at this year's San Diego Comic-Con. The show ends with a big discussion about the Xbox One's recent policy announcements before sending you into the weekend with a new round of Finishing Moves.

  • I feel it's important to make an addendum to Garnett's friend's 'cockblocking' predicament.

If you see a woman getting harassed, by all means, make it uncomfortable, I will give you double thumbs up for giving someone a good escape option from an *uncomfortable* situation.

*however* It's also important to remember that cons are fundamentally a large social gathering of traditional non-social and potentially awkward individuals. A great many of them are consenting adults in full command of their wits. If two people are hitting it off, you are just as much of an asshole screwing up two people connecting over a shared hobby as if you did the same thing in a bar, or a club, or a library or whatever.

Again, if we're talking a 34+ year old dude quizzing a girl of questionable years who doesn't seem to know what 'private photo shoot in my hotel room' is likely to mean, by all means, clue her in, or interrupt the dude or whatever you need to do.

Just be VERY careful in who and why you're doing it. You're just as likely to piss off the lady if you shoo away the guy of comparable years she was really connecting with, or interested in getting coffee with, or even dragging the dude back to her hotel room if that's what she's interested in. No one hired you to be their chaperon, and the person dictating to others who is and isn't allowed to be attracted to each other is very rarely the hero of the story.

Think first, and respect the choices people make. A great many of us in the nerdy persuasion don't often get opportunities to be social face to face, be aware you can do more harm then good.
