Thor: The Dark World iOS game coming from Gameloft

Marvel released the first trailer for Thor: The Dark World, a free-to-play iOS hack-and-slash that's unrelated to the upcoming film of the same name.

Saturday's Marvel Video Games panel at Comic-Con was quick to point out that Thor hasn't done too well in the world of gaming. He spent most of the 90's relegated to cameo roles, some of which weren't even him. Though history seems to be working against them, Marvel hopes to bring the God of Thunder's games to greater prominence.

Mobile publisher Gameloft has been tapped to create Thor: The Dark World on iOS. Though it shares the same name as the theatrical feature, the game will feature an original narrative from Marvel writer Christopher Yost, who most recently served as head writer for The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series. The game will be a free-to-play hack-and-slash title and feature over 100 missions, spanning the Nine Realms.

Thor: The Dark World will release in conjunction with the film, which is set to open in theaters on November 8.

Ozzie has been playing video games since picking up his first NES controller at age 5. He has been into games ever since, only briefly stepping away during his college years. But he was pulled back in after spending years in QA circles for both THQ and Activision, mostly spending time helping to push forward the Guitar Hero series at its peak. Ozzie has become a big fan of platformers, puzzle games, shooters, and RPGs, just to name a few genres, but he’s also a huge sucker for anything with a good, compelling narrative behind it. Because what are video games if you can't enjoy a good story with a fresh Cherry Coke?
