EA Sports games on Xbox One use new 'Ignite' engine

A new generation of consoles means a new generation of engines, and EA has shown off its new 'Ignite' engine which is the foundation of new EA Sports titles. Technically it's only confirmed it for Xbox One, announced during Microsoft's big reveal event, but we all know what's going on. It appears to be quite pretty, and will make you cry or something.

The Ignite engine will be used in next-gen versions of FIFA 14, Madden 25, NBA Live 14, and UFC. We knew EA had grabbed the UFC rights, and now we know what it planned to do with them: make a video game.

EA said that Ignite runs "four times more calculation per second" than its current engine, making things more realistic and pretty. Expect "3D crowds" and "dynamic sidelines" along with "human intelligence, true player motion, living worlds," taking into account the inflating effects of buzz words. It'll be prettier and better, in short.

One interesting little mention was the promise of "a daily stream of content that impacts the game you play" through Xbox Live, but precisely what that means is a mystery for now.

EA has also signed a deal to give exclusive content to Xbox One. The One edition of FIFA will have extra Ultimate Team content though, again, quite what that means is unknown.

The developer and publisher capped its Sports presentation off with a trailer supposedly showing footage from the four games:
