Destiny position mentions 'monetization modeling'
by Steve Watts, Apr 29, 2013 11:00am PDTSo far, we only know bits and pieces about Bungie's next game, Destiny. In our own preview, the online FPS was compared to games as diverse as Borderlands and Mass Effect, and Journey, among others. Given its wealth of influences, it's not surprising to hear that Bungie and publisher Activision might be looking towards the microtransaction model too.
An Activision employee working on Destiny mentions "monetization modeling" on his LinkedIn profile (via Superannuation). The phrase is too vague to draw any certain conclusions. But given the direction of the industry, and how little we know about Destiny, it could be a hint at the game's business model. It is an online-only game, after all, which gives it more in common with MMOs and MOBAs than a traditional first-person shooter.
