Wii U Spring system update hits next week

The spring system update for the Wii U is coming next week, and among the changes will be improved load times and the ability to move data between two USB drives, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during today's Nintendo Direct presentation.

The improved load times will affect switching between applications or returning to the main Wii U menu. The update will also allow users to automatically install programs and software updates that have been downloaded in the background while playing games. This process can also happen when the Wii U is turned off as part of a new standby function.

Players who are in a hurry to play when the console is starting up will also be able to press B on the GamePad to get to the Wii U menu.
