Writers Guild video game nominees announced
by Steve Watts, Jan 18, 2013 1:00am PSTAwards season for video games doesn't just touch on our isolated corner of enthusiasts. Those who make their living penning scripts have gotten some recognition from the Writers Guild of America, and "Outstanding Achievement in Video Game Writing" is its own category.
The Guild announced the nominees yesterday. 007 Legends, Assassin's Creed 3, Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, Halo 4, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss have been honored with nods.
You might notice some glaring omissions, most notably The Walking Dead which has gotten heavy buzz based almost entirely on the strength of its writing. But keep in mind the awards are reserved for those who were either members or had applied to the WGA Writers Caucus as of the time the scripts were permitted. Anything you think should be on the list but isn't may have just been a product of missing some Writers Guild requirements, rather than the Guild deeming it unworthy for consideration.
