Hitman: Absolution difficulty levels detailed

Hitman: Absolution introduces a new 'Instinct' ability to the assassinate 'em up series, which can highlight enemies, predict their movements, give hints, and even directly drop suspicion. Fear not, gentle people who grumble and gripe about the babyfication of video games, with five difficulty levels you can tone Instinct down or do away with it entirely, to show the world how hardcore you are.

The kindly folks at Kotaku have transcribed the difficulty level descriptions from a preview build they've got their mitts on, one of which will surely please you:

Enhanced: Easy

Supreme training and a physique enhanced beyond ordinary human capacity mean that your enemies are no match for you. By cunning or by brute force, you are unstoppable.

  • Players can activate additional checkpoints

  • Instinct regenerates

  • Instinct will provide hints

  • Enemies react more slowly than normal

Enhanced: Medium

You can rely on Agent 47's superior training and instinct. Remaining completely unnoticed can be a challenge, but you can always rely on your guns to get you out of trouble.

  • Players can activate additional checkpoints

  • Instinct does not regenerate

  • Instinct will provide hints

  • Normal enemy presence with normal reaction times

Professional: Hard

You like a challenge and your enemies will provide you with just that. They will be more numerous and with faster reactions. Evading your enemies will be difficult and you must strike with flawless timing.

  • Players can activate additional checkpoints

  • Insting depletes when used and does not regenerate

  • No instinct hints

  • Additional enemies with improved reaction time

Professional: Expert

You fight for every inch of progress, often without firing a single bullet. You don't rely on any help and accept trying many times before reaching your target... and perfection.

  • No player-activated checkpoints

  • Instinct depletes when used and does not regenerate

  • No instinct hints

  • Maximum number of enemies with fastest reacton

Professional: Purist

This is a challenge for a true perfectionist. You know every rule, every detail, and all environments by heart. Even then you will die trying.

  • No Help

  • No guides

  • No Interface

  • Only a crosshair

Developed by series creator IO Interactive and published by Square Enix, Hitman: Absolution is scheduled for release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20.

I wish every single game took this approach. I like widely scaling difficulty levels that go beyond just modifying enemy health and damage.

Harder modes should have more enemies, altered AI, less handholding, more required objectives, or all the above. I guess hitman series in particular is also known to restricts how many saves you can create mid mission too, down to zero on highest difficulty of each game.

I played through Blood Money on all 5 difficulty levels. I love this stuff in hitman games

Yes, that really sux. I hate when difficulty levels disable the HUD. It should be a player choice which we can enable/disable from the options. Gamers need to be given more choice to play the way they want (and I don't just mean int terms of gameplay). Games these days are way to restrictive. Well atleast we have Dishonored.

Or maybe give us a custom difficulty option where we can enable/disable any of the options. I do recall some games doing this.
