Angry Birds Star Wars crossover teased

An Angry Birds image teases a partnership with Star Wars, and promises more details soon.

Angry Birds has become an extremely successful franchise, to the point that even its spin-offs break records. So where does Rovio go from being one of the most recognizable franchises in modern times? Pair it with another of the most recognizable franchises, obviously.

The game's official Tumblr (via Joystiq) has dropped an intriguing image of its familiar bird in Jedi robes, complete with lightsaber. It suggests that fans should head to the Toys R Us in New York's Times square on Monday morning, and promises behind-the-scenes content, animations, and comics to be delivered through the site.

It's impossible to tell what all this adds up to--it could be a toy line or comics that have nothing to do with video games, for example. But Lucasarts has had great success pairing with Lego, so it would make sense for the company to be looking into other game partnerships as well.

At one point in time I'd be enraged with this but after proving with Lego Star Wars that a Star Wars consumer crossover can work, I'd be OK with this, assuming you can slice the pigs in half with a light saber.

Agreed. The series is dying a slow sad death.
