Ubisoft's Uplay store could add third-party games

Ubisoft recently rejiggered its Uplay initiative to become a digital distribution platform, selling its own games directly to customers. It might not stop there, though, as the company has stated that it could eventually roll into selling games from other publishers too.

"We remain open to opportunities," Ubisoft's Stephanie Perotti told MCV. "Right now, we're starting the service with our own games, but as we go forward, we plan to potentially add other titles."

This would put Ubisoft in direct competition with fellow publisher EA, which similarly started Origin with its own games and then expanded. The company declined to comment on the possibility of such an expansion last month, but seems more confident in the eventuality now.

"The plan for Uplay goes beyond digital distribution," said Perotti. "We continue to evolve the service across all platforms, including PC, console and mobile. The more Ubisoft games you play, the more rewards you can get, as well as several online services that players would expect."
