Need for Speed movie set for February 2014
by John Keefer, Jul 11, 2012 4:00pm PDTAlthough the film studio only acquired the rights to the property last month, DreamWorks Studios has set a release date for the movie based on Electronic Arts' Need for Speed franchise. There is no indication why the film is being fast-tracked, but all the parts seem to be in place.
The film will be released by Disney on February 7, 2014, according to Deadline Hollywood. The movie is to be written by George Gatins, produced by his brother John (Red Steel), and directed by Scott Waugh (Act of Valor). The film is based on the series as a whole, "rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise," the studio said when it acquired the rights.
The next installment of the video game series, Need for Speed Most Wanted, is set to come out October 30 from Criterion Games.
