'Book of Spells' coming from Sony and JK Rowling partnership
by Steve Watts, Jun 04, 2012 7:08pm PDTAt today's E3 press briefing, Sony announced a new AR initiative called "Wonderbooks." These interactive storybooks use the PlayStation Move controller to activate pages on of a book virtually for a unique story experience.
To kick off the books, Sony announced a partnership with author JK Rowling for Book of Spells, a Wonderbook themed after the Harry Potter series. Rowling is contributing original writing for the game-book hybrid.
The game demo showed the Move controller as a wand, teaching some spells from the Harry Potter series. We saw a dragon set fire to the book and the player had to put out the fire by waving their hands and then wipe off the soot. Then (with some technical hiccups) the book spat out a fireball to teach a fire spell. The Book of Spells, and the Wonderbook line, is set to launch this holiday season.
