Akaneiro: Demon Hunters announced by American McGee's studio
by Steve Watts, Apr 10, 2012 5:00pm PDTSpicy Horse, helmed by game designer American McGee, has announced its next game. Titled Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, the game tells the tale of Red Riding Hood through the lens of Edo-era Japan. The free-to-play game is set for PC, web, and tablets, and the beta is set to launch later this year.
Kotaku reports that the plot revolves around the Order of Akane, a group of demon hunters gathering "Karma Shards" from dead yokai. It spins Japanese history and culture together with a familiar fairy tale, and the results look like an interesting, fanciful world.
Gameplay details are sparse, but a few screenshots give the appearance of a traditional dungeon-crawler, along with a painterly style. American McGee is nothing if not clever with his settings choices, so we'll keep an eye on this one.
