From Dust heading to Google Chrome
by Steve Watts, Mar 08, 2012 6:45pm PSTGoogle Chrome didn't launch explicitly as a games platform, but it's made a few strides in that direction. It started with some Facebook parity and ubiquitous games like Angry Birds and Bejeweled, but that quickly gave way to more core support with the launch of Bastion last year. Porting games that were part of Xbox 360 promotions is proving popular, as Ubisoft announced From Dust will be making the trek in April.
The announcement came from the From Dust Facebook page (via Joystiq). The announcement didn't give further release details, but it did tease that the Chrome version will sport new controls. Bastion hit Chrome at its standard price on other platforms, so From Dust probably will as well -- that would make it $14.99.
This comes just after Google's announcement of Google Play, which serves as a single cloud-based log-in across various marketplaces. That initiative is more aimed at easy syncing among Android devices, but it's another sure sign that Google is nestling its way deeper into the games distribution market.
From Dust received a generally positive reception at launch. The god game from Another World creator Eric Chahi had the player guide a tribe across landscapes while using elements to protect them from natural disasters. Check out the Chrome trailer below.
