Rumor: Assassin's Creed 3's map is 50% bigger than Brotherhood's, spans thirty years
by Steve Watts, Mar 02, 2012 11:45am PSTThe hits just keep on coming for Assassin's Creed 3. Leaks confirmed its setting yesterday, and we got a first glimpse at screenshots today. Another leak--this time from an early Game Informer article--reveals much more about the trilogy's new assassin, and how he will interact with history in our nation's founding decades.
The summary comes from NeoGAF. The new assassin is purportedly half-English, half-Mohawk. His English name is Connor, while his Native American name is Ratohnhake:ton. He's raised in the Mohawk tribe until Colonists burn their village, at which point he swears to confront injustice. Both the Colonists and British will have their good and bad sides, since the series focuses on moral ambuity in the Assassins/Templar conflict.
The game is set between 1753 and 1783, centered in Boston and New York. The map size is roughly 1.5 times that of Brotherhood. Ubisoft wants to explore visiting not just historical buildings, but actual historical events like the New York fires or Washington's occupation at Valley Forge. An upgraded version of the engine allows "a couple thousand" characters on-screen at once, to reenact large-scale battles. As time passes in the game, a former battlefield might just be an empty encampment or a field.
All of this information is being delivered second-hand, and we're sure to learn more as Ubisoft makes official announcements and the full Game Informer cover story hits.
