EA shutters Bright Light studio
by Steve Watts, Jan 05, 2012 9:45am PSTEA has reportedly shut down the Guildford, UK-based Bright Light studio, resulting in staff relocations and layoffs. Some staff members have been moved to other EA studios, while others have joined nearby studios not belonging to EA.
Develop reports that the process likely began in mid-November after a consultation period. EA confirmed to Develop that the consultation period has ended. Unnamed employees have said they've moved to EA Criterion and Playfish, or Guildford's own Supermassive games.
The report notes that in 2007, Bright Light was employing about 100 people, but the studio's size as of the time of closure is unknown. The developer is best known for the recent Harry Potter games.
