Mortal Kombat Legacy hits Blu-ray November 8
by Steve Watts, Aug 11, 2011 8:00am PDTIt's been a banner year for the Mortal Kombat series. Not only did the franchise get a fresh reboot, but a film pitch from a director/fan turned into a full-blown web series. Now Warner Bros. is packaging those webisodes into a Blu-ray, set to hit November 8 for $19.98.
Hi-def Digest (via Joystiq) reports that the disc includes all 9 episodes, along with a variety of featurettes. These explore subjects like fights and Fatalities in a story-telling context, the passion of director Kevin/Tancharoen, characters' powers and weapons, and a documentary-styled feature about the Netherrealm.
The series attracted an impressive level of talent for a web series, including Jeri Ryan (Star Trek Voyager) as Sonya Blade, Michael Jai White (Spawn) as Jackson Briggs, and Tahmoh Penikett (Battlestar Galactica) as Stryker. Warner Bros seized the opportunity to cross-pollinate promotion for the game, and it seems to have paid off both ways. You could always watch the series on YouTube, for free, but the set seems pretty good for the price.
