Double Eleven signs on as exclusive Sony developer
by Steve Watts, Jul 19, 2011 1:45pm PDTSony Computer Entertainment Europe announced today that the UK-based studio Double Eleven has signed on as an exclusive Sony developer. The studio is currently working on the Vita version of LittleBigPlanet, but this deal promises a future of developing original games for Sony platforms as well.
The announcement didn't include specifics on future projects, but the developer has a noteworthy pedigree. It was formed by former lead-engineers from Rockstar Leeds--developers of PSP classics, like Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories--in 2010.
LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation Vita was showcased at this year's E3. Double Eleven has been developing the title long before it was confirmed series creator Media Molecule would be stepping away from the series.
"Double Eleven are one of the most exciting developers to emerge onto the development scene in recent years, their technical expertise makes them a great fit for LittleBigPlanet on PSVita, and we've [sic] very pleased with the progress the team have made on this hugely anticipated title," said SCE Worldwide Studios Europe senior VP Michael Senny in the announcement.
Lee Hutchinson, CEO of Double Eleven, called the deal "a testament to the hard work of all the exceptional team here at Double Eleven," and said this will help the company "grow and flourish, working on prestigious titles, on leading-edge platforms."
