Final Fantasy XIII-2 coming in January

by Steve Watts, Jul 18, 2011 1:00pm PDT

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is planned for release in January in North America, according to Siliconera. This puts it roughly a month after the Japanese release, so you won't have to be jealous of the east for too long.

As the first numbered sequel since the divisive dance party Final Fantasy X-2, FFXIII-2 is looking to address some gripes from the first game.

The game allows for more branching paths and exploration, and will include more action elements like a jump button and QTE sequences. And if you missed towns in the first game, rest assured that they'll be returning, with fully-voiced townsfolk to talk to. You'll also be able to recruit monsters.

It's a direct story sequel, so your mileage may vary based on how well you liked the first game's story. It follows Lightning's sister Serah and a new character named Noel, after Lightning is presumed dead. Check out our E3 preview for more details.
