As was previously reported and later confirmed, the new Mortal Kombat requires an online pass (dubbed, the "Kombat Pass") in order to battle online on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Due to recent PlayStation Network issues (and because the PSN Store is still offline), many PS3 users have been unable to decimate friends over the net. Until now.
"Due to the recent PSN outage, Mortal Kombat for PS3 will now be playable online without need for the Kombat Pass," a post on the franchise's official Facebook page announced. The post is quick to note that this is only a temporary solution and that when the PlayStation Store is back to normal, the pass will once again be needed.
The "Kombat Pass" is included in all new versions of the new Mortal Kombat title from developer NetherRealm Studios, and can be purchased separately for $9.99 once a free trial expires. The game launched on April 19, a day before Sony pulled the plug on its PS3 and PSP online service due to a breach of security.
