[Update 11:45] Giant Bomb reports that Sony's Patrick Seybold has responded to the reports, emphasizing that no specific date has been set for the PS Store restoration.
While of course we want to keep our partners in the loop with the latest developments for bringing back the PlayStation store, we've not announced a specific date other than to say we expect to have the service fully restored by end of the month. Anything other than that is purely speculative.
[Original Story] A Sony memo to publishing partners has revealed plans to bring the PlayStation Store back online next Tuesday, May 24, Gamasutra reports. It also outlines publishing plans for catching up with missed content in the downtime.
We previously heard that Sony would be releasing multiple store updates per week; the memo reveals that the exact number is two. The first content coming on May 24 will be everything originally scheduled for April 26. Then, on Friday, May 27, content originally scheduled for May 3 will appear. After two more updates on May 31 and June 3, the content will be back on-schedule and Sony can resume regular Tuesday updates.
Sony is also inviting publishers to contact them about moving content. "If there are concerns, we are willing to consider adjusting the release date of your content on this schedule," the memo from content manager Jack Osorno read. "Adjustments will be made on a case by case basis."
The memo apparently didn't address any potential plans to help publishers impacted by the downtime. When the outage was only a few days old, Sony promised extra promotion to at least one small studio whose game missed its release date. As the outage stretched into weeks, publishers grew more concerned about lost revenue, and Capcom's Christian Svensson said it could be costing the company "hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars" in lost revenue.
For gamers, next week's planned restoration means catching up on content missed in the downtime, as well as taking advantage of Sony's Welcome Back program. Planned for "shortly after" the PS Store restoration, you'll be able to choose two PS3 games of five (Dead Nation, Infamous, LittleBigPlanet, Super Stardust HD, Wipeout HD + Fury), and two PSP games of four (LittleBigPlanet, ModNation Racers, Pursuit Force, Killzone Liberation).
