Just Cause 2 dev's co-op shooter Renegade Ops announced
by Alice O'Connor, Mar 30, 2011 9:00am PDTAvalance Studios, the Swedish developer behind explodalicious unexpected hit Just Cause 2, is planning to once again deliver a delicious dose of destruction. Publisher Sega today announced Renegade Ops, a downloadable vehicular shooter headed to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
While Renegade Ops is described as a "military co-op shooter," there's no need to groan as senior producer Andreas Thorsén notes it's "all about driving or flying around blowing stuff up while playing with your friends and that to us, is a dream-project."
Playing as commandos, players will be trying to take down some chap named Inferno, "a madman intent on global domination." Parents, this is why you don't give your children horrid names.
The announcement promises "a wide variety of vehicles" armed with weapons including electromagnetic shock waves and "a huge Gatling gun." As well as single-player, Renegade Ops will offer co-op for two-player split-screen and four-player online co-op. There'll also be online leaderboards.
Renegade Ops is slated for a downloadable release on PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network some time this year. Pricing has not yet been announced.
