Portal 2 kicks off 'investment' trailer series

Valve kicked off a new trailer series for Portal 2, introducing game concepts as Aperture Science "investment opportunties." First up: panels.

Valve kicked off a new Portal 2 trailer series today, with the first of four "investment opportunity" videos coming before launch. This edition features panels, the flexible wall, floor, and ceiling construction units that can change the layout of a room with ease.

"Portal 2 is the best documentary-style investment opportunity game we've ever contributed to," said Valve president Gabe Newell in the announcement, "and we're confident that savvy investors will immediately see the value in these product demonstration videos."

Portal 2 -- the game, not the doomed Aperture investment -- is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 on April 19.

I love it! Bring on Portals! I often wonder why Gabe says this is their greatest game? With their L4d, HL2, and episodes, is it because it's such an original concept?

Yeah it's their most innovative series, for sure!

I think he said it's their most well designed game not necessarily best... not completely sure though.

What is the digital release date for Portal 2, is it before the retail one in NA?

I want to pre-order but I don't see much point if I cant play it any sooner...

I grabbed the PS3 version from amazon. $20 future credit, free PC / Mac version, and 99cent release date delivery.

so I don't care much when it gets released digitally, but now I Steam doesn't have the exact date yet, which is odd and probably what you are referring to! Only says April 2011.

Generally, Valve games come day and date with the retail launch dates, depending on when they decide to unlock the pre-loads.

In game map editor? Would be pretty awesome not having to deal with Hammer.

Valve has promised support on the PC side to make new levels and will have means to distributed them to the steamworks-enabled side, possibly as well to 360.

Yeah I'm just hoping its a simplified editor, or even better a new version of Hammer.

Their cinematics department must have been incredibly busy for the last few months.

The people behind these never cease to amaze me with their talent - the script writers too. The level of detail in all their cinematics show how much they probably enjoy doing it too

Well that's the neat part about Valve. They have portable desks. If an employee feels they can add to a project and want to be a part of it, they can. If they feel enslaved in a project, they can work on something else. It seems to have worked out for them well.

I'm curious to see how soon it is before the first 360/PS3 versions start showing up on livestream services. I'm hoping the game is kept under wraps until release day :(
