Dawn of War 2 - Retribution pre-order bonus DLC now sold separately
As promised, Dawn of War II - Retribution's 'Race Pack' DLC pre-order bonuses have been released separately--on launch day, no less.
When Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II - Retribution publisher THQ announced an assortment of downloadable content packs as pre-order bonuses, it said that they would be sold separately for "for a nominal fee" after launch. That promise has been kept as the 'Race Packs' were released alongside Relic's RTS today, priced at 99¢ apiece.
Each of the six Race Packs contains four Wargear items for characters to equip in the the respective race's single-player campaign. You can also buy the whole lot slightly discounted in a bundle for $4.99.
Several of the Race Packs were exclusive to different editions and retailers, leading to a lot of umming and ahhing over where exactly to buy the game--for me, at least. Turns out, I needn't have worried.
Dawn of War II - Retribution was released in North America today and will launch across Europe over the next few days.

yeah. thats me. and im seriously annoyed about it. to make things worse, i STILL havent received it in the mail, so while everyone else is playing, im waiting. i assumed that the 10 extra bucks would be less than buying them separately. oh yeah and i had to pay shipping too.
since i havent received it yet... can i like, reverse the charges on my card, and return it unopened? THQ has a "no refunds" policy, period, no exceptions. and i seriously doubt ill be able to find someone even stupider than i am to sell it to for what i paid for it...
oh well... that'll learn me. of course, i said that the LAST time i pre-ordered something about 5 years ago and here i am again.-
so for anyone who cares, i contacted the office of the CEO for THQ about this. stated my case that i felt like i kinda got the short end of the stick for buying direct from them, and the essence of the reply was along the lines of "the extra $5 was for the extra stuff (which in my case is going straight into the trash anyway) and that yes, it was a bad idea to not make it clear that the (digital) extras would be available at launch and at a $5 price point, but no, there would be nothing done to provide satisfaction for anyone who feels a little screwed over this."
they actually suggested i try selling it on ebay. sigh.
that was the first, last, and only time i will ever buy anything directly from THQ. -

Hahaha, I definitely did. Even considered getting the CE for them, now I'm glad I didn't. My plan now is to just get a new pack each time I beat a campaign.
I know the dlc is a fairly minimal addition to the game experience, but for 99 cents a pop, I'll buy them to support Relic and get their small added bonus to sp and coop.

I think it is interesting that this is the first Shack thread I have read that announces a DLC pack for sale on the day a game launches, but there's no intense rage.
We think these prices are fair? I don't think they are that bad - but it does put an extra $5 right on the top of the price for content that CLEARLY was ready at launch, and that could have been included at no charge.
Are we not mad because the price is $5 in total? Because the price for an individual thing is $0.99 (showing that microtransactions win)? Because the price for the game was only $30, which seems pretty reasonable? Because we love Relic? Because DOW is awesome? I find it all intriguing.
