Painkiller Expansion 'Redemption' Due Next Week
by Alice O'Connor, Feb 15, 2011 3:00pm PSTPublisher DreamCatcher has announced that the new standalone Painkiller expansion Redemption will be released on February 25--the same week as the new shooter from Painkiller creator People Can Fly, Bulletstorm, comes out.
Unlike People Can Fly's new baby, Painkiller - Redemption is a budget-priced affair, currently listed by GamersGate at only $4.99. Developed by a team of modders, Redemption was initially conceived as a mod for the dire Painkiller Resurrection.
Painkiller - Redemption packs an estimated 7-10 hours of playtime, with over 6,000 enemies across six maps. There's also a map editor, so you can make your own.
While the Painkiller series has undoubtedly declined sharply in quality over the course of its life, for $5 you might get a satisfying amount of shooting from Redemption.

Then Dreamcatcher decided to stick it diseased corporate dick deep into PCF's masterpiece and released resurrection. While the Overdose team actually cared about the IP, DC had no such illusions, they shoved out resurrection for what must have been pennies on the dollar and waited for the suckers to stumble in. That was the end of Painkiller. It was horrific.
Since then Farm51 (2 PCF alumni) came up with Necrovision which was had the art chops but not the gameplay of its forbear. Bulletstorm looks like it could carry the torch but as far as accepting another thin, unfertile load from DC, I'll take a pass.
