Having sold 30,000 copies within the first 24 hours after launching on PC, Arrowhead's $10 co-op action-RPG Magicka went on to sell over 200,000 within the first 17 days.

The revelation came in an interview with producer Mattias Lilja of publisher Paradox Interactive at Big Download. He also revealed that multiple pieces of downloadable content, both paid and free, are in the works.

"The Arrowhead team asked if they could be a bit daring when it comes to the DLC and we told them yes," Lilja explained. "They really did go off the reservation with some stuff, and I bet my Wizard's survival kit most gamers will love it. The team is set up in such a way that some guys can keep patching the game while others produce DLC, without getting in the way of each other or stealing resources from one another."

Magicka has receive a whopping ten big patches since it was released for PC on January 25, having been a wee bit buggy at launch.

Still think this is GOTY and I stand by it. We won't get anything else this innovative all year, it's going to be reboots and sequels. Plus for 10$ it easily has the most bang for the buck.

I have yet to pick this up but it does look deserving of the accolades it's receiving. I expect that L.A. Noire will be my GOTY; the seemingly deep investigative elements and branching story will probably earn it not to mention everything else that's in the game. (My choice is in response to your opinion that nothing else will be innovative)
