Morning Discussion
by Alice O'Connor, Jan 31, 2011 5:00am PSTHello again, The Internet. I was away on Friday at the London indie games conference A Winter World of Love, which was quite lovely. If you eat your vegetables, do all your chores and behave with the utmost politeness, perhaps I'll tell you a little more about it.
I was tempted to join a post-conference game jam over the weekend but felt a little worse for wear so I ended up reading and writing instead. I ploughed through Heart of Darkness (some curious prequel novelisation of Far Cry 2), got well into the astonishingly astonishing BLDGBLOG Book and was delighted to discover that the stories of Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips' crime comics series Criminal tie into each other in small ways. Many things are enjoyable, aren't they? Oh, and I think I played a little Jade Empire but I'm not quite sure because there seemed to be bad shmup sections and that seems unlikely in a BioWare RPG--it's possible I was delirious.
Speaking of indie games, voting has opened for the 2011 Independent Games Festival Audience Award. As a member of the audience, you can vote for one of the IGF finalists to receive a special shiny prize. Hop to it, then.

Specifically he gave his gamercard name and password to another player that offered to unlock the elite Recon Armor from Halo Reach - normally something you have to beat the Vidmaster challenges in that and in OSDT to get. This other player, however, simply hacked the achievement for the kid while offline, and, later, someone complained about the kid having the Recon armor despite being offline when the achievements were earned, thus triggering MS to lay down the smack.

It performs well for what it is. However, what it really makes me excited about is the next revision, I imagine a 2Ghz Bobcat would be able to do 720p gaming quite well and take care of the rest of the video decode issues.

- Got some awesome bands I missed out on in the 90s like Gruntruck and Fishbone.
- Reliving the 90s sarcasm and attitude.
Other than that the video commentaries were much funnier than the actual episodes. Weird to see Daria though.

You can do that for most images in Chrome, but not ALL like in firefox.
For example here http://jalopnik.com/5742894/vw-xl-1-300-mpg-turbodiesel-hybrid/gallery/1 if I click Full size, I can't get the url to the image in Chrome.
Any way to make this possible in Chrome, is there some setting or extension that allows this?
The Media tab under page info is also something I would like to see in Chrome, along with the "View background image" option.

I had to return a year old Dell S2409W display (that I thought was pretty good) and due to many fuckups and the way they messed me about, including sending me a refurbished S2409W (which is my desk now), that had sticky crap all around the bezel and some sort of mucky film on the screen itself, they've agreed, as a gesture of goodwill, to send me a new monitor.
As the S2409W is no longer made I have a choice between:
P2411H - http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=457577&~ck=baynoteSearch&baynote_bnrank=1&baynote_irrank=0
ST2420L - http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&sku=447120&~ck=baynoteSearch&baynote_bnrank=3&baynote_irrank=0
Whilst I don't use the functionality at the moment, the S2409W being VESA mount compatible was a feature I wanted when I bought it. However, of the two, only the P2411H is VESA compatible. I can't find any credible reviews as to whether or not the P2411H is actually any good for gaming/movies etc.
Now obviously when I bought a S2409W I wasn't buying the best panel available for those situations but it was still pretty good. I've found one review of the ST2420L and it doesn't come off as well as the S2409W did a couple of years ago.
If i was buying a new monitor today, I don't think I'd buy either.
Now, if Dell did a 24" version of the U2311H, I'd love that. It's VESA compatible and isn't bad for too gaming. Why no 24" Dell? You make me sad :( If I didn't have another 24" sat next to this one I *might* have settled for a 23" but I don't really want to, or see why I should.
If only they'd offer me the U2410 :( They won't though, it's a much more expensive display.
I just don't know what to do. Silly, but that's how I feel at the moment.
Halp me shack!
You guys that like rogue-likes should check this out. It's a zombie survivor game. It's fun.

So this game kept me occupied for most of the weekend. Its sound only which works well since I couldn't open my eyes. Interesting concept in that you are trapped in this place and must walk (or run) out by following sound cues and avoiding monsters.
I think $4.99 is a bit expensive for most people but since I had no other goddamn choice this weekend it was worth it to me. I'd say its probably a $1.99 or $2.99 game

It kind of made me feel sick to my stomach and a bit depressed. I would still recommend it.
I have a user that can't open their contact list. The icon shows in the system tray but if you try to open the contact list it never displays. I've uninstalled and re-installed Communicator and I've nuked whatever I could find in the registry but I can't get Communicator to work properly. Anyone run into this before?

" In 2009 when I visited Northern Nigeria to meet with the most important traditional leader, the
Sultan of Sokoto, he committed to the campaign. It was fantastic to see him publicly giving his support. (He also gave me a horse to thank me but I told him I couldn’t take it.)"
:( Bill didn't take the horse :(.
