Singularity Developer Raven Rumored to be Back on Bond Game
by Garnett Lee, Dec 06, 2010 1:30pm PSTJames Bond fan site MI6 reports (via Develop) that the pending approval of movie studio MGM's bankruptcy plan puts Singularity developer Raven Software back on the case for the next Bond game. The developer had been rumored to be working on a Bond game prior to its recent restructuring.
This leak comes close on the heels of Activision's revelation that it plans to "explore options" regarding the future of another of its internal studios, Bizarre Creations. They developed the latest Bond adventure, Blood Stone, only to face potentially being closed weeks after the game's November release. Though this turn of events left the creative direction of the franchise up in the air, Activision's deal for the Bond license runs through 2014, leaving no doubt that there would be more games.
It wouldn't be out of character for Activision to look to a first-person shooter team to make a Bond game. Current Call of Duty: Black Ops developer Treyarch put together 2008's Quantum of Solace using the same engine and tools as Call of Duty: World at War, which they were working on at the same time. Raven fits neatly into this picture. Its reported work on Black Ops map packs would give the studio both familiarity with the ongoing development of the Call of Duty engine and a good relationship with Treyarch for support.
Activision declined to comment on this story.
