Blizzard Sues Second Korean Network Over Unlicensed StarCraft: Brood War Broadcasts

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Blizzard had filed a lawsuit in South Korea against MBCPlus Media, which operates the MBCGame television network and airs professional StarCraft: Brood War leagues and tournaments.

Now, Blizzard has sued OnGameNetwork (OGN) for broadcasting an unauthorized Brood War league. (translation via TeamLiquid.net). The situation is a bit different from the MBCGame lawsuit because OGN had successfully negotiated for a broadcast sub-license from Gretech for a previous competition.

On October 26, however, OGN announced another Starleague that did not have a sub-license, triggering the lawsuit. GomTV representative Bae In Sik said, via translation, that 'OGN has already agreed that the right to broadcast belongs to Blizzard and GomTV when they started Korean Air OSL Season 2, and it's too bad that they started another league illegally.'

OGN plans to continue to negotiate for licenses during the lawsuit, but it remains to be seen if any Starleagues will actually be halted through these suits.
