I never post anymore, but just wanted to let my fellow shackers know that I am still very much alive and doing well.
'
I never thought my move back to Georgia and new job would have me so consumed that I would stop shacking, but it's amazing what happens when unlimited/unrestricted daytime internet access is taken away from you. By the time I get home from work at night, the last thing I want to do is get on the computer.
Some good news is that I'm taking the plunge again ... getting married in Las Vegas on October 10th.
Any of you guys been recently and can recommend some of the overpriced shows that might be worth the money?
The fiance and I are going to try and see Holly Maddison's "Peep Show" among other stuff we'll squeeze into four days.
Any recent Vegas visitors who can throw out any ideas would be appreciated.
Greetings to some folks I haven't spoken to in a while (in not any order and please forgive me if I leave your name off)
ThomW! (We need a Hershey Shackmeet/reunion soon!)

mind you, i'm only talking about the single player. (although i did love quake 2's multi).
17 months after quake. the graphics are SO MUCH better. i got both glquake and q2 working on my PC. no mods; no retexturing. just the original graphics. i don't dig on those source ports generally. give me my old shit raw and untouched.
anyway. pain skins. just the general animation of the enemies is far beyond quake. the way they fall to one knee, or writhe in pain, or take dying potshots at you. awesome.
much more complex levels with tons of secrets. they really blew the hell out of quake's campaign with this.
of course, unreal came out six months later and blew Q2 out of the water. again, talking SP. and then half-life released in november of 1998. ELEVEN months after quake 2. yet you compare them and it's like half-life is part of a whole other generation of shooters. it's so far past the "primitive" shit in quake and unreal.
so from june of 1996 to november of 1998, approximately 29 months, we went from quake to half-life. talk about light-year acceleration.

Color me concerned especially about Flight. For those of you who do not know, Microsoft when they did their we hate PC gamers nuking from orbit also killed off their ACES team who were the guys working on all of their simulators. They had worked hard with their community (these types of guys: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/273358-the-view-forward-with-the-pmdg-737ngx-new-screen-shot-aug-3/ ) to improve their product over the years and work with different development groups (like PMDG, Project Magenta, VATSIM/IVAO, Wilco, Reality XP).
I'm concerned. :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEV9niTmeOU&feature=channel (p1 of 4). After part 2 you'll be thinking how can this game end with anything but tedium? But there are yet twists and turns ... I saw the next-to-last "twist" coming, but not the final one. Definitely worth watching, absolutely hilarious game.

Goddamned Jeremy, shoulda seen it coming. Sucks to see a standout HL2 mod die off. I had some great moments (and probably my worst rages) playing Insurgency. When everything was just right it was a lot of fun.

"I think we need to invest in this space," [Microsoft Game Studios GM Dave Luehmann] told CVG. "Windows is an important space for us so we need to invest our first-party IP in it as much as anybody else. We cant really ask other companies to step up if the first party isn't stepping up."
On why Microsoft's appeared to snub the PC for the last few years, Luehmann said it was an issue of "focus".
"I think it was a focus thing. We started to focus on one area and now we're saying let's start to spread that focus.
Hahaha, it's as though they listened to Idle Thumbs 35 last year (but seriously, they probably have been getting plenty of complaints over the past year or two about how MGS has not been releasing PC games, and had effectively closed down and absorbed all of the Microsoft-owned studios who had made PC games). Only problem is, there's a good chance that 100% of their PC offerings are going to require Games for Windows Live, and they need to understand that GFWL is half of their problem, that there are some PC gamers who absolutely loathe GFWL when compared to other services like Steam or GoG, and there are other PC gamers who have avoided GFWL because of all the problems that have been mentioned.
